24-7 video surveillance with day/night cameras

Published by Margeaux on January 9, 2012 11:48 AM

Day/night network cameras are a versatile video surveillance solution. These popular cameras are available in all forms, including dome, PTZ, fixed, indoor and outdoor, and more.

At night, day/night network cameras use naturally occurring, near-infrared light that is invisible to the human eye. In daylight, day/night network cameras use IR cut filters to block infrared light from hitting their sensors. In dark conditions, the IR cut filter is automatically removed to let infrared light hit the camera sensor. This enables the camera to be sensitive down to 0.001 lux or even lower. In other words, IR cut filters enable network cameras to deliver images even in complete darkness.

Most day/night network cameras produce black and white images at night, and full color images during the day. They are especially useful in areas with minimal artificial light, making these cameras a discreet solution for 24-7 video surveillance.

IR illuminators can be used to supplement naturally occurring infrared light. Some day/night network cameras have built in IR illuminators. Standalone IR illuminators can be used with any day/night camera as well.
