Sacramento Regional Transit receives PTZ and fixed megapixel surveillance cameras
47 light-rail stations in the Sacramento Regional Transit District are now monitored by a combination of fixed megapixel cameras and PTZ security cameras. The new surveillance system provides police and security personnel with real-time video feeds of activity in and around the stations.
From a video control center in downtown Sacramento, transit officials can now monitor multiple stations simultaneously, examine recorded footage, and can even control the pan, tilt, and zoom functionality remotely in order to focus in on specific events. The system will enable faster response times, and should help in upping the overall level of security for transit riders and workers. Funding for the project was provided in a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
