Atlanta's Chastain Park Gears up for 5 New Security Cameras
Chastain Park in Atlanta, GA will soon be outfitted with five high-resolution security cameras after a year of planning. Police officers at Atlanta's Police Department's Zone 2 Substation in Buckhead will monitor the cameras, which are set to record 24-7.
The cameras will be mounted in high-traffic areas of the park, including the tennis center and park playground. About 10 years ago, the park had three cameras operating in the area but as time progressed, police officers realized they weren't very effective or reliable. At the time, city funds weren't available to upkeep the park's surveillance system.
Money for the new cameras came from a $50,000 City of Atlanta trust fund. A portion of concert ticket sales and parking revenue was injected straight into the trust fund, making it possible for the park to finally purchase high-performance cameras. The amplified security efforts will fortify the park's mission statement of providing a safe and secure outdoor area for patrons.
