Sony IP cameras deliver stadium surveillance for FC Porto football club

Published by Dan on April 27, 2009 2:01 PM

Dragao Stadium, home to Portugal's FC Porto football club (some of you might call it soccer), has decided to implement a new IP-based surveillance system to enhance stadium security for staff and visitors. The stadium has a capacity of 51,000 seats and has been known to host some pretty large-scale events, including the 2004 European Football Championships. The system features a large network of Sony IP cameras which provide 24-hour surveillance inside and outside the stadium.

140 Sony network cameras are deployed in the Dragao Stadium surveillance system. Because it's an outdoor stadium, the cameras feature an all-weather housing that allows them to operate effectively even when the weather's less than ideal. A dedicated IP network links the system together and the cameras are managed using Sony RealShot software. In the stadium's central control room, six Sony servers archive recorded footage, while operators monitor the cameras on four large plasma screens. The IP surveillance system also integrates seamlessly with the stadium's fire and safety controls. Another key advantage of the system is scalability. If additional areas of the stadium require monitoring down the road, installing new cameras along the network is a quick and easy process.
