HDTV network cameras improve casino surveillance in South Dakota

Published by Dan on July 13, 2010 11:06 AM

The South Dakota Gaming Board has approved a project to install HDTV network cameras in a pair of casinos located in the Black Hills area. Casinos are prime candidates for high-definition video surveillance because they require exceptionally clear video images for detailed monitoring of gaming tables.

HDTV technology will allow operators at the South Dakota casinos to monitor an entire gaming pit using only four cameras. With analog surveillance a similar setup would require up to 24 cameras. Because the HDTV cameras have such a high resolution (in this case 1280 x 720) fewer cameras are required for monitoring large areas. Users can capture and record the full field of view from each camera, and zoom into specific portions of the scene while still maintaining superior image quality. In casinos, where operators need to be able to focus in on such tiny objects as chips and cards, it's very important to have sharp and detailed video at your disposal.
