Dorchester Hotel installs high-end security system using Milestone software

Published by Amelia on July 14, 2009 11:58 AM

With high-profile clients like celebrities, politicians and even royalty, security is a top priority for the Hyde Park Dorchester Hotel in London. Security staff has outfitted the hotel with a future-proof system with Milestone XProtect Enterprise IP video management software at its heart. ACTi video encoders digitize data from already existing analog cameras and Axis network cameras have been installed in the spa of the hotel, the only area operating with purely IP network technology.

Milestone IP video surveillance is providing a future-ready platform for the Dorchester's expanding needs. The software is easy to use. Operators can quickly search for and produce important footage to resolve issues within the hotel, or to show police. The video surveillance is managed through two Milestone Smart Client machines combined with a monitor wall that allows security staff to view many different combinations of surveillance at once.

In addition to high-profile clientele and other registered guests, the Dorchester sees a lot of traffic from unregistered guests enjoying the bar and restaurants and events hosted at the hotel. Known for their high-end design scheme, management at the Dorchester wanted a discreet security system that provided high-profile security to keep tabs on people entering and exiting the hotel. Cameras were integrated into the decor in keeping with the style of the hotel. Cameras located at the reception desk look like lighting fixtures, while small dome or fixed cameras are located in corridors, at all entries and exits, underground parking, and staff and delivery areas.

The Dorchester plans to upgrade their existing analog cameras and replace them with Axis megapixel IP and dome network cameras. The Hyde Park location is the first of the Dorchester Hotels to receive a security system overhaul. Two more new hotels are expected to be outfitted with upgraded security specs next year.
