Denmark town reports reduced crime with IP video surveillance
Two years ago, municipal authorities in Egedal, Denmark implemented a network video surveillance initiative throughout public buildings. Using Milestone software to manage a fleet of IP cameras from Axis, ACTi and other manufacturers, Egedal greatly reduced the incidence of vandalism and crime in schools, train stations and libraries.
Egedal security staff report the Milestone network surveillance program makes it easy to view live footage as well as to playback recorded video. In addition to providing identification of criminals and footage of illicit activities, network video surveillance has been shown to prevent crime in Egedal.
In the future, authorities plan to take advantage of remote viewing capabilities with mobile devices in patrol vehicles.
"With this technology, security guards can track a situation developing and act before it is too late, or make sure they don't chase after a false alarm. This really saves on municipality resources and strengthens our position against crime," asserts Henrik Jorgensen, Head of First Response.
