Panasonic integrates video surveillance and POS for retail applications

Published by Dan on February 11, 2008 3:41 PM

Panasonic has developed a new integrated solution that combines video surveillance and Point of Sale (POS) systems onto a single platform. The result is Virtual Site Manager (VSM), a software-drive solution for organizations running retail sales operations. The software couples recorded video with POS workstation data for a complete record of financial transactions and interactions between customers and cashiers.

Users are able to quickly search data for keywords such as "void," "no sale," or "coupons," to identify specific types of incidents that have occurred, and to keep employees honest. Along with managing POS information and video footage, VMS also provides tools for tracking employee time and attendance, and controlling business operations such as purchasing, finance, and human resources. It can also be used as a marketing tool, providing analytics of promotional campaigns, sale activities, and product placement. Users can monitor the Virtual Site Manager remotely via the Internet.
