Milestone SDK 3.3 strengthens integration with video analytics and H.264
Milestone Systems just announced the release of the XProtect Software Development Kit (SDK) version 3.3, further positioning itself as a leader in open-platform IP video management. The Software Development Kit is used by authorized and certified Milestone partners to create integrated solutions that incorporate IP video into a wide range of network-based security and business systems. The SDK is also used internally by Milestone to develop integrated surveillance solutions for retail loss prevention, centralized surveillance, and matrix solutions.
By providing rich Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), the SDK enables solution partners, integrators, and consultants to create IP video surveillance solutions that are interoperable with some of the latest, most cutting-edge surveillance applications and security devices. Examples include Milestone integration with video analytics, biometrics, access control systems, people counting, point-of-sale, alarm systems, and much more.
Looking at point-of-sale as an example of this type of integration, consider how retailers manage loss and shrinkage. By combining IP video with point-of-sale systems, retailers can receive video evidence and transaction information from the register simultaneously. Another good example is the integration of video surveillance with biometrics and access control. This type of system could work to verify exactly who is entering a building, and could eliminate the problem of people using stolen access cards or slipping in behind someone else before the door fully closes.
