Milestone announces refresh of XProtect video management software line at ASIS 2011

Published by Amelia on September 20, 2011 3:46 PM

Milestone Systems is keeping the new product momentum going at ASIS International 2011 by announcing a full refresh of their XProtect product line. Milestone also introduced the new XProtect Express, a budget-friendly version of the popular VMS software.

XProtect Express offers a mid-range solution. The more basic versions of XProtect software, Go and Essential, don't have the ability to integrate in other security platforms with the video management software. Express on the other hand, supports a single server installation and is designed for up to 48 cameras. XProtect Express is designed to be an ideal solution for customers who want professional features in a small, budget-conscious environment.

Developing XProtect Express hasn't been Milestone's only focus. The company also updated their higher-end software offerings. XProtect Enterprise and XProtect Corporate are primarily used in larger installations with active monitoring needs. Version 8 of Enterprise adds graphical interfaces for cameras, maps, and an alarm manager that consolidates alarm inputs for the system.

Though not completed for the ASIS tradeshow, an update to XProtect Corporate is expected to be released in October 2011. The refresh will include a smart client that supports 360 imaging and a Camera Navigator tool that automatically pulls live feeds from adjacent cameras so security personnel can easily track suspicious activity or individuals from one camera view to the next. Also included in the update will be a new software installation process for more effective installation that recognizes cameras faster and a feature for automatic camera license activation.
