Retail surveillance solution features Axis 209FD and Axis 221 network cameras

Published by Dan on June 9, 2009 3:56 PM

Popular Swedish retailer Lidl is in the process of upgrading the video security systems in its stores from analog to IP-based surveillance. The new video security systems feature network cameras from Axis Communications. Each store will have 18-20 IP cameras monitoring entrances and exits, cash areas, shop surfaces, and restricted areas where customers don't have access. Lidl chose the Axis 209FD Network Camera and the Axis 221 Day & Night Network Camera for the video surveillance upgrade. Each network camera supports Power over Ethernet and connects seamlessly into Lidl's existing IT infrastructure.

This type of video surveillance installation offers a number of advantages, including simple and flexible installation, and easy scalability if new cameras need to be added. The IP-based video monitoring system increases the level of security for both staff and shoppers, and better protects those handling cash. It also provides far superior image quality than the previous analog system. This makes it much easier to identify individuals and objects when incidents require investigation.

All of the cameras are managed using Milestone IP video software, and footage is recorded and stored for 30 days. With the IP-based system, monitoring costs have been greatly reduced, and the overall flexibility of the system surpasses the previous setup by leaps and bounds.
