Axis video encoders improve poker room surveillance at Tampa Bay Downs

Published by Dan on May 4, 2009 3:36 PM

Tampa Bay Downs, the self-proclaimed "only thoroughbred racetrack on Florida's west coast," recently had to upgrade it video surveillance system in order to meet new Florida regulations for electronic surveillance in gaming facilities. The key to the upgrade was transitioning from an analog solution to an IP-based digital system to monitor the facility's 30-table Silks Poker Room. Previously, the analog CCTV cameras in the poker room transmitted footage to digital video recorders (DVRs), but the system only provided moderate resolution and offered very little in the way of scalability or upgrade potential. Now the cameras are connected to Axis video encoders which convert the video footage to digital, enabling easy integration with an IP network solution.

By converting the analog video signals to digital, the poker room surveillance system can now stream those digital images over an IP network. This allows authorized users to view live images remotely over the web, and manage the footage using video management software. The Axis video encoders provide far superior recording resolution over the previous setup, while optimizing storage capacity to meet state regulations that require footage to be saved for 14 days.
