Airport surveillance provided by Axis IP network cameras

Published by Dan on April 23, 2009 12:41 PM

The Carcassonne airport, located in Cathar country in the south of France, has installed a new video surveillance system featuring Axis network cameras to help ensure passenger safety. The airport serves 8 regular low-cost airlines and is also open to international traffic. The influx of passengers coming through the airport is growing each year. That along with new safety regulations imposed by the French Civil Aviation authorities made the decision to upgrade to an IP-based video surveillance system an easy one to make.

Now the airport is equipped with seven Axis 223M network cameras and two Axis 233D IP dome cameras. The 223M was chosen because of its high image quality and day/night functionality that allows for continuous 24-hour surveillance even in dark conditions. The Axis 233D is a PTZ dome camera featuring 35x optical zoom. This camera is ideal for wide-area surveillance and allows operators zero in on specific parts of a scene.

Airport security personnel use surveillance monitors to view the video footage, and can also access the cameras remotely on laptops or PDAs. The system is set up to alert security with automated alarm notifications when suspicious activity is perceived. Because the IP video system supports mobile surveillance, officers can then check in on those alarms in real time, even when they're on the move. The main areas monitored by the airport video surveillance system include passenger security checks, boarding gates and aircraft parking areas.
