Outdoor IP Cameras

Setting up a surveillance system outside presents challenges not encountered when configuring an indoor security camera system. Installing an exterior system requires taking a number of factors into consideration including the weather, variable lighting conditions, and possible vandalism or tampering. With today’s outdoor IP cameras, tackling those challenges head on is not a problem thanks to technology that wards off some of the problems that can be encountered when placing a surveillance system outdoors.

Weather-Resistant Housing Protects Camera from the Elements

Outdoor-ready cameras are typically outfitted with weather-resistant housing to protect them from extreme heat and cold, wind, rain, humidity, dust and vibration. VideoSurveillance.com’s selection of outdoor cameras comes with IP66 and IP67-rated housings for protection from harsh environments. With proper housing these cameras will deliver high-quality performance regardless of the conditions outside.

Outdoor Cameras Adapt to Changing Lighting Conditions

Since lighting conditions outside are anything but stable, outdoor cameras have to be able to adapt to everything from bright, high-contrast conditions and direct sunlight, to dark shadows, grey cloudy skies, and everything in between. Most outdoor cameras today use auto-iris lenses that will automatically adjust to changes in lighting throughout the day. Many outdoor surveillance systems rely on day/night cameras and IP cameras that have specialized lighting such as IR illuminators so you can continue to capture images even in complete darkness.

Vandal-Resistant Housing Helps Protect Cameras

Some outdoor network cameras are equipped with vandal-resistant designs, which helps protect the cameras in exposed locations. Tamper detection is also included with many outdoor cameras, alerting surveillance operators when a video feed has been blocked or disrupted.

VideoSurveillance.com carries outdoor IP cameras and outdoor video surveillance systems from major manufacturers including Axis and Vivotek. If you have questions about which outdoor surveillance solution is right for you, give us a call at (877) 478-1911.

Product Focus: Sony HD Day/Night IP Cameras

Speaking of outdoor video surveillance, these four new cameras from Sony offer impressive protection from the elements while also providing HDTV-quality images. The cameras are designed to withstand outdoor use with IP66-rated housing and built-in heaters. HD (1920 x 1080p) picture quality at 30 frames per second and IR illuminators ensure that you’ll capture high-resolution images day and night.

All four cameras are equipped with dual-streaming capability with any combination of three video compression standards including H.264, MPEG-4 and MJPEG. An auto-iris lens adjusts to maximize clarity and depth of field providing sharply detailed images. Intelligent motion detection and a tampering alarm offer additional security. Each Sony camera operates using Power over Ethernet (PoE) allowing for flexible and cost-effective installation.

The Sony SNCCH260 bullet camera and the SNCDH260 mini-dome camera come with a 3.27-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor, while the SNCCH280 and SNCDH280 are each equipped with a 3-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor. The sensors allow the cameras to perform well even in low-light. Both the SNCDH260 and the SNCDH280 provide enhanced security with IK10-rated vandal resistant housing.
