Sony SNC-P5 PTZ Network Camera

The most economical of Sony's PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) series, the SNC-P5 offers many of the same features as its high-end counterparts. With the same built-in Web server and network interface, you and several other users can control your camera and monitor your footage from any computer with an Internet browser. Its pan and tilt range of 75 degrees allows for a fairly wide viewing area, which, in conjunction with the SNC-P5's 3x optical zoom, can effectively monitor a reasonably large space.

The SNC-P5 supports both MPEG-4 and JPEG formats, which allows you to choose between file sizes on the basis of your available bandwidth. Networks with less bandwidth may function more efficiently with smaller MPEG-4 streaming files, whereas those who prefer higher quality images-- and have the bandwidth for them-- may use JPEG files.

A built-in motion detector will trigger an alarm or a variety of other external devices in the event of a security breach. And thanks to a built-in "buffer memory," the SNCP5 can also store several seconds of pre and post- alarm footage; in MPEG-4, it stores approximately 30 seconds of footage, or 10 seconds in JPEG format. Plus, you can program your camera to transfer your pre- and post-alarm footage to an FTP server and have a still image of the exact moment the alarm was triggered e-mailed to a designated address.
