New British cameras to be equipped with X-ray vision? Not quite.

Don't get the lead jumpsuits out of storage - the x-ray camera isn't yet a reality. The surveillance company ThruVision, has just introduced a revolutionary new surveillance camera that uses electromagnetic rays that explosives, drugs, and other illicit substances emit - from under clothing.

The ThruVision relies on a technology called "passive imaging," a type of breakthrough that allows operators to identify harmful packages (like bombs or ammunition) through coats, bags and other concealments - but without revealing any anatomical details. Passive imaging works by detecting the (low) levels of electromagnetic radiation that all living things (including people) emit, and boasts the ability to determine whether a concealed object is metallic or non-metallic from distances up to 80 feet away.

The T5000 will be unveiled at a home security conference in the UK later this week - but look for it later in public areas like malls and airports soon.
