Louisiana State adds campus surveillance cameras to improve student safety

The shock of a recent double homicide on the Louisiana State University campus has had the school's security forces scrambling to find new ways to keep Tiger students safe in their studies.

Along with an increase in plainclothes LSUPD officers patrolling the Baton Rouge campus and an improvement in the campus' emergency alerts system, the campus police department will be installing security cameras around the school - focusing on areas that are densely populated.

Campus surveillance cameras, both indoors and out, can help keep students, staff and visitors cognizant of their surroundings. Visible cameras can help deter crime, and if crime does occur, the presence of surveillance cameras (especially IP cameras) can help identify criminals quickly.
