Milestone IP video software helps reduce retail shrinkage in Swedish supermarkets
Netto, a Swedish supermarket chain, has turned to network cameras and IP video management software from Milestone Systems to help curtail robberies, theft, and shrinkage in its retail stores. The supermarkets were using analog CCTV systems, where surveillance footage was stored on video tapes. With the new IP-based surveillance equipment in place, Netto is hoping to take advantage of the technology's many benefits and cut down on those pesky issues which all retailers must face.
Most Netto stores now feature a large screen at the entry, where shoppers can immediately see themselves on camera. This helps to deter theft, and provides a safer environment for employees by lessening the chance of robberies. Each store is equipped with megapixel IP cameras from Axis Communications, along with Sony network cameras. The cameras monitor cash register areas, storage rooms, administration offices, and provide comprehensive views of the store. They're controlled by Milestone XProtect Enterprise IP video software, which stores the surveillance footage for up to 30 days.
