Vivotek unveils Scalable Video Coding

Published by Margeaux on June 7, 2011 11:40 AM

Vivotek has released a new video codec which enables video to be divided into layers that can be individually configured for resolution and frame rate. Scalable Video Coding (SVC) is based on industry-leading H.264 video compression.

This new technology will benefit those using tablets, mobile phones and other platforms with limited resources. For example, with SVC you can optimize a layer for viewing on an iPad. Such a configuration would take into account the device’s processing power, battery life and display resolution.

As the network video industry continues to produce multi-megapixel cameras, it becomes increasingly important for video streams to be optimized according to viewing platforms.

Vivotek's full line of IP cameras will soon support SVC.
