Vivotek prevents theft at busy Polish gas station

Published by Margeaux on February 24, 2011 8:42 AM

Gas stations around the world present a challenging surveillance scenario; they seem to be a magnet for crime and vandalism. With constantly changing light, so many people coming and going and tough outdoor conditions, gas stations require durable, powerful cameras.

Art-Rafix in Ozarow, Poland is a busy station that had a gas theft problem. The obvious solution would be to install cameras to record every car’s license plate; however the contrast of bright sunlight and dark shadows made it a difficult task.

According to Art-Rafix owner Jerzy TroszczyDski, most Polish gas stations use CCTV technology that isn’t powerful enough to record fine details like license plate numbers and faces. Therefore, TroszczyDski opted for the Vivotek IP7161 camera for its detailed images and electronic PTZ function.

With two megapixels and an IR-cut filter, the IP7161 offers high quality surveillance both day and night. When light is scarce this camera automatically switches from full color mode to create black and white images using near infrared light. An auto-iris automatically adjusts to optimize sharpness and exposure. This camera features a tamper-resistant design, making it ideal for a busy city gas station.

Thanks to the IP7161’s wide field of view, TroszczyDski only needed to install four cameras to monitor the entire fueling area day and night. Additional savings are provided with Power over Ethernet, which also makes it easy to move cameras to new locations. Last but not least, remote viewing allows TroszczyDski to monitor his business remotely through a web browser.
