Vivotek FD8134 network camera assists Chilean miner rescue operation

Published by Amelia on October 18, 2010 1:19 PM

The dramatic footage of the rescue operation for 33 trapped Chilean miners had people across the globe glued to their television screens watching the risky undertaking unfold successfully. While the bulk of the credit goes to the rescue operation engineers, a compact Vivotek camera played a surprisingly large role in the events of the day.

The engineers who designed the transport capsule that extracted the mine workers from underground mounted a Vivotek FD8134 fixed dome network camera to the rescue capsule. The HD quality footage from the FD8134 gave operators a clear picture of the conditions each time the transport capsule traveled underground to bring up a trapped miner.

Besides aiding rescue operators in their efforts, the Vivotek FD8134 provided impressive documentation of the entire rescue process. Footage from the cameras is being used by media outlets worldwide including CNN and BBC.

The FD8134 network camera is equipped with a 1-megapixel sensor and a removable IR-cut filter that enables day and night function for true 24 hour surveillance. This feature came in handy when the camera had to adjust to the difficult lighting conditions as it made its trips underground.
