Milestone IP video software supports Sony network cameras with H.264 compression

A new line of Sony network cameras with H.264 compression was recently released and will be supported by Milestone software. H.264 raises the bar for video compression, allowing for increased storage and optimized bandwidth without sacrificing high-resolution video and frame rates. Milestone has announced that its XProtect video management software will support the new Sony camera offerings and the H.264 compression standard.

The new lineup of Sony IP cameras, which includes the Sony SNC-CS50P and the Sony SNC-DF80P amongst others, is the first collection of commercially-available network cameras with H.264 compression. H.264 can reduce the size of a digital video file by up to 80 percent in comparison to Motion JPEG, and up to 40-50 percent against MPEG-4.
