Introducing the Sony SNC-P5 IP network camera

Published by Dan on February 19, 2009 3:43 PM

Sony has added a new IP camera to its product line. The Sony SNC-P5 is an affordable and versatile network camera offering pan/tilt functionality and 3x optical zoom. It delivers both MPEG-4 and JPEG video streams over the network at up to 30 frames per second with 320x240 resolution. The SNC-P5 is well suited for a broad range of indoor surveillance applications, especially those requiring PTZ, audio surveillance, and dual compression.

The Sony SNC-P5 supports two-way audio communication with a microphone and speaker connections. This allows operators to listen in on the area under surveillance, and also to communicate directly or deliver recorded messages to those within range of the camera. The camera also features a built-in motion detection function that can trigger an alarm or other actions using an alarm-output port. Another notable feature of the SNC-P5 is its multicasting capabilities, which enable efficient streaming of video and audio to large numbers of users without bogging down the network.
