Mobotix cameras brave rough waters to capture round-the-world voyage

Published by Amelia on July 22, 2009 10:37 AM

While used primarily on land, Mobotix cameras are now taking to the seas. In a new partnership, Mobotix will be providing cameras for a man sailing around the world twice. His project is called sail2Horizons. The network cameras will record images and video on board the sailboat at specific times. They will also capture footage as needed with event triggers.

The three cameras are positioned at various angles around the boat. A mast camera provides a view of the bow, a console camera records the back of the cockpit, and an equipment carrier camera will show the front of the cockpit. The Mobotix cameras will work closely with log book software to record what is happening throughout the voyage. All cameras are equipped with a GB SD card that saves images internally. In addition, the video surveillance will be copied to a mobile USB hard drive every 2 to 3 days. Images can also be transmitted over a satellite phone.
