MOBOTIX is pushing the envelope once again. This time, the megapixel camera specialists have introduced a new series of IP cameras that carry a significant amount of built-in storage. The Mobotix RB version IP cameras have eight gigabytes of built-in solid state storage, making them ideal for mobile surveillance and rapid deployment situations when external storage isn't a viable option. Think of temporary surveillance in a high crime area, for instance.

Fresh off the heels of its first breakthrough hemispheric IP camera, the Q22M, Mobotix has upped the ante once again with a new and improved Q24M model. Like its predecessor, the Mobotix Q24M includes a unique integrated distortion feature which allows for clear and accurate panoramic images. This eliminates the bending and distortion of images you often find with panoramic or wide-angle cameras. The camera captures high-resolution video images with a 180-degree field of view, perfect for detailed wide-area surveillance.

We often hear of construction sites using surveillance cameras to increase security in a work zone, prevent theft, keep intruders out, that sort of thing. In the case of a new development project at the University of Bedfordshire, the cameras are also providing students and staff the ability to follow the progress as a new student center and residence hall take shape. The University now has two Mobotix network cameras monitoring the project. Time-lapse footage will be taken automatically over the course of 18 months, then put together in a film showing the demolition and construction involved in the redevelopment project. In the meantime, students and staff can check in on the site in real time.

Mobotix IP cameras are a key player in documenting the decades-long project restoring the Medway Queen shipping vessel in Bristol, England. The ship was nicknamed the “Heroine of Dunkirk” after it rescued 7,000 stranded troops during World War II. As an important part of maritime shipping over the last century, the restoration of the ship has caused considerable interest from the history community as well as members of the public. The Medway Queen Preservation Society chose to use a Mobotix IP camera to accurately record the process of restoration.

Demonstrating just how diverse IP surveillance camera capabilities are, a Mobotix network camera was installed at the top of the volcano Valahnukur in the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland, the same volcano that erupted clouds of ash that closed down airports all over Northern Europe. Fortuitously, the Mobotix camera was mounted just before significant volcanic activity occurred. Anticipating volcanic events, the camera was installed to capture footage of the eruption and share it with the public via a live web feed.
