Logitech looks to establish home surveillance presence with WiLife acquisition

Published by Dan on November 8, 2007 9:27 AM

Logitech International announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire WiLife, creator of an award-winning PC-base video surveillance solution for homes and small offices. The acquisition will allow Logitech to expand its ever-growing presence in the digital home, this time, by offering an affordable, easy-to-install home security option.

The innovative WiLife surveillance solution uses HomePlug technology which allows the cameras to communicate and transmit video through the existing electrical wires in a building or home. The system accepts up to six wireless cameras with receivers that plug into ordinary wall outlets, and also includes software which allows for recording and remote video monitoring over the Internet. Footage can be viewed on a PC or on portable devices such as cell phones or PDAs. Video is stored on the hard disk of the user's PC, or on the Internet via WiLife. The system has earned a great deal of acclaim for its affordability and easy operation.

Logitech plans to use its extensive distribution network to broaden the availability of the WiLife system, which will become part of the company's Internet Communications Business Unit.
