Beverly Hills makes the move from analog CCTV to IQinVision network cameras

Published by Dan on June 27, 2008 10:28 AM

If Winona Ryder thought it was tough before, she's going to have an even harder time shoplifting on Rodeo Drive now that the city of Beverly Hills is installing a comprehensive IP-based video surveillance system. The ongoing project involves replacing the city's analog CCTV cameras with IQinVision IP cameras.

A mix of network cameras now monitors a range of locations throughout the city, from water reservoirs, city streets, and heavy-traffic areas, to the prestigious Rodeo Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard. The flexibility of the IP cameras also allows the local fire department to monitor them during emergency responses to fires in the surrounding hills. Some of the cameras operate wirelessly, while the majority are connected to the city's fibre loop. Video footage from each camera is transmitted to a central data center where it can be monitored live and archived for up to 12 months.

The cameras comprising the new Beverly Hills surveillance system include the IQinVision IQeye 511, IQeye 702, and IQeye 753 day/night models.
