Along with pulling off a surprising march to the AFC East division title, the Miami Dolphins’ successful football season also included an upgrade to their stadium surveillance system. The Dolphins recently deployed an IP-based video security system to monitor Dolphin Stadium. The system features IP video products from GE Security, and is used to protect and enhance the game-day experience of the 900,000 fans who pass through the gates during the regular season, playoffs, and other large events held at the venue each year.
Included in the IP surveillance system are GE Security Megapixel and PTZ Legend Dome cameras. The cameras are managed by GE Video Management System (VMS) software. Security personnel use the system to monitor fan conduct, and to improve emergency response times.
One interesting way the Dolphins are using the system is to actually empower fans to anonymously report disruptions in the stands. Stadium security workers are able to receive the text messages and immediately use the GE IP cameras to zero in on the specified area to confirm that the reports are valid, and then quickly respond. The National Football League calls the text-message security alert program the "Fan Code of Conduct."
