D-Link network cameras secure Grand Canyon Skywalk
IP cameras from D-Link have been chosen to monitor the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a new vista destination on the majestic canyon's western edge. The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a massive, horseshoe-shaped glass bridge suspended 4,000 feet above the Colorado River. Since it opened in 2007, over 250,000 people visit the skywalk each year. Because of the large crowds, video surveillance plays an important role in ensuring the safety and security of visitors, workers, and the facility itself. As part of a new IP-based surveillance system, D-Link network cameras were installed due to their outstanding image quality and their support for remote video monitoring.
Remote access was a key factor in the decision to use IP cameras, mainly because it was important that operators could monitor the footage from an operations center in Las Vegas, 260 miles away. The D-Link cameras also support Power over Ethernet, which allowed installers to situate them at any location with access to the facility's Ethernet wiring. PoE eliminates the need for nearby power outlets because the cameras receive power via standard Ethernet cable. The cameras are able to capture 22 days of video footage, which allows users to go back and review recordings to clear up claims and analyze incidents. The system is also scalable, so additional network cameras can be added at any time.
