D-Link IP cameras help University of Texas monitor health facility

Published by Dan on September 8, 2009 11:33 AM

The University of Texas recently installed IP cameras from D-Link to provide video security for the school's new Health Science Center. The surveillance cameras allow operators to see who's entering and leaving the high-security facility, and work to provide effective access control. The system is also used for monitoring and recording activities within the data center, for reviewing any reported incidents, and for monitoring what tasks are being performed throughout the day.

An IP-based solution featuring D-Link network cameras was chosen based on its flexibility, scalability, and lower cost of installation. The school chose cameras that operate using Power over Ethernet (PoE) which eliminated the need for expensive cabling. The D-Link IP cameras can be added anywhere along the Ethernet framework. A 24-port PoE switch links the surveillance network together and keeps it separate from the building's production network.

To monitor the Health Science Center, the school is using a combination of D-Link DCS-5300 and D-Link DCS-6620 network cameras. Both operate using PoE, and offer fast pan/tilt/zoom control.
