Cisco Video Surveillance System to monitor Amtrak rail yards

Published by Dan on September 29, 2008 4:27 PM

Amtrak has announced that it will deploy the Cisco Video Surveillance System to monitor its maintenance yards in Los Angeles and Oakland. The Cisco Video Surveillance System is part of Cisco's Physical Security Solution, and operates over an IP network infrastructure to allow remote video monitoring and real-time investigation, incident response, and resolution.

With the Cisco solution in place, Amtrak will be able to converge its physical security systems over an IP network of wireless access points and fiber backbones. Operators will be able to monitor suspicious activity remotely, and can also incorporate advanced video analytics to help detect events as they're happening rather than afterwards. The system uses Cisco's Video Surveillance Manager, which is a software platform that manages and authenticates access to video feeds, connects cameras using virtual matrix switching, and stores video files where they can be quickly accessed at any time.
