Cisco introduces new IP cameras and IP-based access control system
Last week at the ISC West conference in Las Vegas, Cisco announced some exciting additions to its physical security product portfolio. Most notable are a new line of Cisco IP cameras, and Cisco's first IP-based access control system. These offerings fall in line with Cisco's strategy of developing scalable solutions that can operate across the same IP network.
Cisco's new IP cameras deliver high-quality surveillance for a variety of applications. The Cisco Video Surveillance 4500 IP camera uses H.264 compression to transmit high-definition video while optimizing bandwidth. The Cisco Video Surveillance 2500 IP camera captures standard-definition video and is available in both a wired, Power-over-Ethernet model and a wireless version.
The Cisco IP-based Physical Access Control (PAC) system integrates security operations across a single IP network. It includes hardware and software along with a comprehensive solution for network-based electronic access control. The system can operate with existing locks, door readers, and biometric devices, and is easily scalable. It's ideal for office buildings and campus environments. The software component of the system, referred to as Cisco Physical Access Manager (PAM), integrates seamlessly with Cisco video surveillance offerings.
