IP surveillance solution from Axis and Milestone helps Chase Farms comply with Bio-Terrorism Act

With the Bio-Terrorism Act demanding stricter adherence to food product traceability standards, companies such as Chase Farms in Walkerville, Mich. are turning to IP surveillance as a way to closely monitor operations. Chase Farms, one of the largest vegetable processors in the Eastern United States, has installed an IP surveillance system that utilizes megapixel network cameras from Axis Communications along with IP video management software from Milestone.

Last fall, 60 Axis 223M megapixel network cameras were already up and running. The complete system will include over 100 IP surveillance cameras all managed by the Milestone XProtect Enterprise IP video system. Chase Farms now uses the IP video system for widespread monitoring of machinery operations, forklifts, truck delivers, pickups, and essentially all daily activity throughout the entire complex. The system has also been integrated with access control systems and employee time and attendance.

Chase Farms is closely monitored and graded by agencies such as the FDA, MDA, and USDA on food quality, and compliance with food processing standards and regulations. The IP video solution from Milestone and Axis helps the company provide visible proof of its compliance to these standards. Other benefits of IP surveillance in this type of environment include improved quality control, higher productivity, enhanced safety and security, and easily accessible video evidence when injury claims and safety issues arise.
