Grambling State University installs Axis network cameras for campus surveillance
In an effort to deter crime campus-wide, Grambling State University has installed an IP-based surveillance solution that utilizes 220 Axis network cameras. The system operates over a fiber optic backbone using IP video technology to deliver comprehensive surveillance footage that can be viewed remotely, and stored at a centralized recording center on campus. The new system is a major upgrade over the University's previous one, which consisted of pockets of analog cameras scattered around campus.
Unlike the old system, Grambling State's new surveillance system is easily scalable. New IP cameras can be added to the existing network at any time without the need for complicated cabling. It's also capable of storing up to 30 days worth of video, which is a significant improvement over the previous system. Currently, the school has installed Axis IP cameras to monitor a wide range of campus locations, including residence halls, a newly constructed assembly center, property and receiving areas, and laboratory facilities. The school chose to deploy Axis 216MFD and Axis 212 PTZ network cameras. The Axis 216MFD was specifically chosen because of its high-quality megapixel resolution, which allows the camera to effectively cover areas such as building entrances, hallways, bus stops, storage areas, and streets.
Already, the Axis camera system is showing its worth. According to reports provided by the school, crime is down, and more than 50 percent of the reported crimes on campus have been solved thanks to images from the IP cameras.
