Located in Minnesota, Scott County Jail (SCJ) houses 264 beds and holds male, female and juvenile offenders. With 160 cells and nearly 90,000 square feet, the vast detention center poses a challenge for video surveillance. Using Milestone software and a real-time video analytics system embedded in an Axis encoder, SCJ implemented a comprehensive real-time surveillance solution.
The Jail’s main impetus is to enforce restricted areas, so the system is designed to accommodate 90 detection areas. About half of SJC’s 186 cameras are capable of instantly alerting personnel of illicit entry in restricted areas. The integrated IP video surveillance system allows corrections staff to secure the premises, and also provides documentation of incidents.
