Axis introduces compact H.264 video encoder

Published by Dan on February 16, 2009 3:54 PM

Axis Communications has introduced a new one-channel video encoder offering H.264 compression. The Axis M7001 Video Encoder provides a cost-effective solution for integrating analog CCTV cameras into an IP-based surveillance system. This is an extremely compact encoder (smaller than a modern cell phone), which makes it ideal for use within camera housings and in discreet video surveillance applications such as banks and retail stores.

Axis M7001

Designed to be installed close to the camera, the Axis M7001 encoder converts analog video signals into digital video streams which can then be sent over an IP network. The encoder also provides pan/tilt/zoom support to PTZ cameras. The encoder can deliver simultaneous dual streams in H.264 and MJPEG compression to optimize bandwidth while providing high-quality images. H.264 compression in particular, can significantly reduce bandwidth and storage requirement while maintaining a high level of image quality.

The Axis M7001 also allows for adjustable image settings and can support video motion detection. It operates using Power over Ethernet and is supported by Axis Camera Station software, as well as other leading video management software programs.
