Portland Public Schools considers Arecont Vision security cameras

Published by Amelia on September 24, 2010 4:08 PM

In the wake of the tragic disappearance of Kyron Horman in Portland, Oregon in early June, Portland Public Schools is considering outfitting schools with Arecont Vision cameras. Skyline Elementary School, where Kyron was last seen, installed the high-resolution cameras before the new school year began.

The Arecont Vision cameras record 360 degrees of super-high resolution video. The high-resolution of the cameras allows surveillance operators to be able to identify crucial details such as faces and license plate numbers. The cameras also come equipped with the ability to zoom in on footage after the fact to more closely identify what is happening in any given scene and examine any details that might have been missed.

Many of Arecont Vision’s cameras operate using Power over Ethernet making installation easy and cost effective. Power over Ethernet also allows for more flexibility when it comes to positioning and placing cameras. Network cameras can easily be placed at entrances and exits to schools, cafeterias, parking lots and other high traffic areas. While the Arecont Vision cameras are only at Skyline Elementary School right now, Portland Public Schools are considering installing the video surveillance cameras at all schools district-wide to increase security.
