ACTi networks cameras and Exacq software deliver highschool surveillance solution

Published by Dan on October 29, 2008 11:25 AM

Heritage High School in Saginaw, Mich. is gearing up to install a new, cutting-edge surveillance system for the start of 2009. The IP-based solution will consist of ACTi network cameras controlled and managed by IP video software from Exacq Technologies. Live camera feeds can be monitored remotely and all video footage will be stored for 30 days in case an incident requires review.

The main goal of the new surveillance system is to cut down fights and other disturbances throughout the school. The previous system featured 18 analog CCTV cameras, while the digital solution includes 83 network cameras covering all entrances and exits to the school, as well as the football stadium and bleachers. For privacy reasons, cameras won't be present in classrooms or locker rooms.

Along with improving the school's video surveillance system, district leaders are exploring the idea of electronic door locks, which is another method many schools are now looking at as a way to improve overall security.
