Learn How To Select the Best Security Camera System for use in your Home or Business in our Insider's Guide to Video Surveillance.
IP video technology has enabled schools of all shapes and sizes to increase their overall level of security with scalable, cost-effective surveillance installations. Recently, the Louisiana School for the Deaf was in need of a new video security solution, and opted to choose a system incorporating ACTi network cameras and milestone video management software. The IP-based surveillance system provides comprehensive video surveillance for the sprawling 122-acre campus that features 18 buildings.
Monitoring the campus are 172 ACTi ACM-7411 network cameras. The ACTi ACM-7411 is a 1.3 megapixel camera that delivers outstanding image quality. The high resolution provides detailed images that allow for digital enhancement for identification purposes and analysis. Another advantage of the megapixel cameras is they provide a wider field of view than traditional cameras. The ACM-7411 also features a vandal-resistant dome housing, making it an ideal choice for school surveillance.
The system is controlled and managed by Milestone Enterprise central video management software operating on 3 Intel servers with 18 TB of storage. To maximize the benefits of megapixel video, the network infrastructure uses PoE enabled Netgear switches on a dedicated 1 GB backbone. Since the ACTi network camera system was installed last year, student behavior has improved greatly and the school reports a much safer atmosphere with no known incidents or disturbances.
