GE Security cameras provide park surveillance in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Police Department recently upgraded an existing video surveillance network that aims to deter crime in MacArthur Park. The improved park surveillance system features fixed security cameras, PTZ domes, and video management solutions from GE Security.

Since the original system's installation several years ago, the LAPD already reports a steady decline in crime within the park. The new upgrades will help to provide police with higher-quality video, and much more options in terms of remote monitoring, camera control, and storage. The GE PTZ cameras, for instance, provide police with the ability to remotely control pan, tilt, and zoom functions for broad-area surveillance.

The MacArthur Park surveillance system is connected to the LAPD's Rampart Station via fiber optics and wireless transmissions. The system is used for daily monitoring of the park, and also helps to provide added video security during big events such as the annual May Day Immigration Rally, which took place there on May 1.
