Boca Town Center mall looks to add full-scale video surveillance system
Following a homicide last month involving a mother and a daughter, the Town Center in Boca Raton, Fla. is pushing hard for a major video surveillance upgrade. While plans were already in the works to add more security cameras, the recent tragedy further highlights the importance of enhanced video security. Mall officials are now pursuing a full-scale video surveillance system to monitor the entire exterior of the Town Center mall.
Currently, five cameras are up and operational, with an additional five security cameras already approved. They are part of a city-wide surveillance project that currently has a $250,000 budget. Mall and city officials are looking to expand the system further however, by installing surveillance cameras in a myriad of public places that includes not only the Town Center, but also parks, traffic intersections, shopping centers, and public buildings. The goal is to discourage crime with the presence of security cameras, and also to improve emergency response times, and capture visual evidence for criminal investigations.
