A new 250-bed jail in Midland County, Michigan is going the digital surveillance route with IP-based video surveillance technology from Panasonic System Solutions to secure its facilities. The 103,000-square foot facility will be monitored by a cutting-edge surveillance solution that includes 87 Panasonic IP dome cameras along with high-capacity NVRs.
Panasonic i-Pro network cameras were chosen for the installation, most models featuring ruggedized construction to prevent tampering and vandalism, and to ensure continuous coverage in this high-security environment. The dome IP cameras also boast 1280x960 megapixel resolution for clear and detailed video images, plus a much wider field of view than traditional security cameras. They offer day/night functionality and dual MPEG-4/JPEG compression to stream high-quality video at up to 30 frames per second.
The jail surveillance system also features two network video recorders providing a total of 18 terabytes of expandable storage. Surveillance footage will be monitored on fourteen Panasonic 42-inch plasma displays, and operators will be able to control PTZ functionality and use a numeric keypad to get direct access to each camera. Panasonic i-Pro Management Software will control the system. The Midland County Jail is expected to open in September.
