Two new studies report rapid growth in the IP camera market

A pair of reports focusing on the IP camera market have been released by Santa Clara Consulting and Multimedia Intelligence. Both studies reveal considerable growth in IP camera sales for the past year. The Santa Clara study shows 2007 IP camera sales in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America, up 82 percent in 2007. The Multimedia report indicates that in 2007, IP camera sales went up 48 percent worldwide.

The Santa Clara study also estimates that IP cameras made up 20 percent of all camera sales in 2007. Experts predict that within five years, IP network cameras will overtake analog cameras as the leading format for video surveillance.

While the Santa Clara report identifies market segmentation by IP camera image sensor type: CCD, CMOS, and DPS, the Multimedia Intelligence study is more wide-ranging and covers everything from network cameras to encoders, DVRs, and video analytics.
