Delaware Psychiatric Center improves security with 200 surveillance cameras

Published by Dan on December 4, 2007 2:43 PM

The Delaware Psychiatric Center has installed 200 digital surveillance cameras in response to a series of incidents that exposed security issues in and around the facility. The new system will help to improve security for hospital employees and patients, and will provide important visual evidence in complaint investigations.

Examples of the events that made the new cameras such a necessity include reported acts of abuse, sexual assault, staff intimidation, and vandalism. The surveillance system aims to bring an end to such activity. Cameras will send continuous digital video feeds to a hard drive storage system as well as monitors at each nursing station. While live video can be viewed on the monitors, digital video recorders will archive footage for up to 30 days in case any incidents require further investigation. The security cameras are strategically positioned throughout the hospital buildings, as well as the exterior courtyards and parking lots.
