Michigan senior center adds cameras to protect residents
The Carman-Ainsworth Senior Center in Flint Township, Michigan has a nice flat screen TV in its lobby - but instead of watching TV, residents and staff are instead treated to views of their fellow residents and staffers as they enter and exit the building.
After an unfortunate fall in Carman-Ainsworth's parking lot, which left a female resident stranded in the parking lot for over 20 minutes, staffers and officials decided to install the outdoor surveillance system, which monitors the parking lot and entrance to the facility. From the TV in the lobby, workers and passers-by can see not only who is coming and going, but if anyone needs help in the parking lot or outside. This kind of preventative measure can help keep accidents from turning into out of control situations- especially in the winter, where cold weather and ice can mean broken bones and hypothermia.
The primary purpose of this new system is resident safety at this elder care center - with cameras monitoring the outside of the facility 24/7 and the footage streamed live to the TV in the lobby, any accidents or slips can be seen and residents helped early.
