Mobile surveillance systems on the rise for law enforcement in the U.S.
Law enforcement agencies across the U.S. are turning to video surveillance systems in police cars for increased security. The market for mobile video surveillance equipment for patrol cars is forecasted to grow at an average of 6.5 percent per year according to new reports. Already, over 40 percent of the 450,000 police cars in the U.S. already have digital video surveillance.
There are many benefits for law enforcement officials when mobile surveillance resources are deployed. Video footage can be used as evidence. Footage can be watermarked or verified using other techniques to ensure that the video has not been tampered with. In cases where the conduct of a police officer needs to be reviewed, footage can be pulled from the mobile surveillance cameras and passed along through the proper channels. Officers also have the ability to flag specific sections of video for viewing later as part of training or evaluation exercises.
