Convenience store security cameras mandatory in Toledo starting in May

In an attempt to step up security at convenience and quick-stop stores in the area, Toledo lawmakers have created a law that requires all convenience stores to have business licenses and a functioning security camera system (and to share that recorded footage with the police). It's hoped that the convenience store IP cameras will help eliminate the drug, loitering and robbery problems that many quick stop and carryout stores are prone to.

However, some convenience store owners have objected to the law - saying that the mandated security programs are not affordable for many business owners, and the requirement to share all recorded with law enforcement is unreasonable. We've seen cases with required surveillance in New Mexico convenience stores and New York City night clubs. In both previous cases, businesses have cooperated with the laws after some negotiation. An alliance of Toledo convenience store owners is doing the same - they have filed a complaint with the US District Court against the city, who has 20 days to respond.
