Is video surveillance enough? British robberies prove that companies cannot be secure on surveillance alone

It's the biggest recorded heist in UK history - a staggering £53 million pounds, (about $105 million USD) taken from a sorting and holding depot for retail stores and groceries all across England, even serving the Bank of England. So how did this take place? Money handling and intense security go hand-in-hand, and this depot was no exception. This was an inside job - security guard Emir Hysenaj actually used video surveillance to counter the security of the depot.

Safety, novelty make car surveillance cameras a popular feature

Parallel parking for the first time is never easy - there's the careful initial alignment, and the tricky backwards steering and fingers-crossed reversing into the spot. Hopefully, if all goes as planned, the maneuver will be over soon. However, we all know that these things don't always go as planned - and sometimes, an attempt at parallel parking ends in a gut-wrenching crunch. D-Link SecuriCam PTZ Network Camera designed for whole-room monitoring

D-Link has unveiled a new PTZ network camera designed for whole-room video surveillance in homes, offices, and small businesses. The D-Link SecuriCam Pan/Tilt/Zoom Network Camera (D-Link DCS-5610) can be mounted on the ceiling or wall, and allows users to remotely control pan, tilt, and zoom functions in order to achieve wide-area surveillance from a single camera.

Private security cameras could become part of Chicago's video surveillance network

One of the key benefits of IP-based surveillance is the ability to transmit footage over the internet so it can be viewed remotely. In Chicago, where a large surveillance network already exists, a plan is in the works that would allow businesses and home owners to make their private security cameras available to the Chicago 911 center in cases of emergency. The owners would have to give permission, of course.
