They grow up so fast. Yesterday Axis hosted a birthday party for the 15-year anniversary of the network video camera at ASIS 2011. There are some exciting new products coming out of the Panasonic exhibit at ASIS International 2011 this week. Early on in the security show, the manufacturer introduced a new line of i-PRO SmartHD weather-resistant cameras.

ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is a global and open industry forum that was formed to facilitate the development and use of a global open standard for physical IP-based security products. The city of Gilroy, California recently invested in a security camera system that they’re hoping will not only deter crime, but encourage shoppers and tourists to visit the new downtown by dispelling the impression that the city is too dangerous or dingy to visit. City officials and businesses are hoping the cameras show the city cares about downtown and the visitors’ safety.

Faced with an outdated system, the Phuket International Airport undertook a project to increase security by providing better monitoring on the taxiway connecting runways to the terminal and other airport facilities. Four Vivotek IP8332 day/night H.264 bullet cameras were installed at strategic locations on the taxiway and by the boarding gates. The cameras are supported by Vivotek’s video management software ST7501.

IR illuminators are lamps that emit infrared light used by day/night cameras to produce images in complete darkness. This light is mostly invisible to the human eye, though some IR lights cast a red hue. Because they are difficult to detect in the dark, IR illuminators are especially beneficial in situations requiring discreet video surveillance.
